Technical Support Specialist

Job Description:

The Technical Support Specialist will be responsible for overseeing the technical coordination of YEDI’s hybrid classroom ensuring program sessions are running smoothly for both in-person and online participants.

  • Active Zoom Facilitation:
  • Set up zoom sessions for classes.
  • Pre-flight check the auditorium equipment: Smartboards, computers, digital AI camera, audio system and microphones.
  • Track student attendance and keep detailed session notes.
  • Monitor the zoom chat for each cohort to make it easier for students to connect with each other and the instructors and efficiently and effectively communicate.
  • Adjust quickly to changing priorities and conditions during class. Cope effectively with complexity and change for each session.
  • Communication:
  • Communicate session needs with program coordinators and instructors.
  • Prepare media for sessions under the guidance of session instructors.
  • Use equipment to accommodate different session styles and methods to facilitate online student participation.
  • Maintenance of Audio Visual Equipment:
  • Troubleshoots and Identifies issues with equipment with regular system checks.
  • Facilitates connections with equipment distributors and arranges for repairs and maintenance as needed.
  • Researches audiovisual equipment as requested by the program coordinators.
  • Enthusiasm:
  • Passion and excitement for work. Can-do attitude.
  • Generates new and innovative approaches to audiovisual solutions for a hybrid classroom.
  • Basic Content Maintenance of WordPress pages
  • Updating the YEDI website with new perks available for students
  • Finding discounts and perks that can be used for students.

Skills required:

  • Audio Visual equipment knowledge: Smartboards, Room mics, speaker systems, lavalier/lapel mics.
  • Basic computer troubleshooting skills
  • Detailed knowledge of Zoom
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Critical Thinking skills
  • Microsoft Office proficiency (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Teams)
  • Detailed note-taking skills
  • Self-motivated and a self-starter: the ability to work independently is a must
  • Basic WordPress editing skills (advanced skills are welcome but not a must)

Nice to have skills:

  • Teams and Google meet
  • Experience with OBS, or other streaming software
  • HTML/CSS or familiarity with basic web development
  • Advanced IT experience is welcome!

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Office Administrator

Job Description:

York Entrepreneurship Development Institute (YEDI) is a Toronto-based charity whose mission is to educate, inspire, and nurture entrepreneurs and not-for-profit leaders. Our unrivalled programs, resources, and mentorship enables our entrepreneurs to drive innovation in Canada and around the world.

We are seeking an office administrator to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2-years Canadian experience; preferably in an office setting where client/case-specific tasks are performed.

The employee will be reporting to the Director of Operations.

Tasks include the following, but are not limited to:

  • Handling and managing phone calls: answering customer service inquiries and providing accurate information.
  • Drafting and responding to emails and website messages or inquiries. Responsible for info mailbox correspondence on general inquiries and forwarding emails to team members as required.
  • Digital file management on various platforms including; Populi; Canvas LMS; Google Sheets; others.
  • Scheduling consultation dates, other appointments, etc. either in-person or virtually over ZOOM. Adding scheduled appointments and other events to the appropriate calendar.
  • Required to do research on new platforms, professionals, and field experts for internal and external use. Reaching out to them to arrange meetings as needed.
  • Reception area management: greeting and ushering guests.
  • Assist the other team members as required. These tasks will vary.

The ideal candidate will have the following qualities:

  • Very comfortable with handling telephone conversations with our alumni and general public.
  • Detail-oriented, with superior organizational skills and the ability to prioritize.
  • The ability to excel in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to think outside the box, be creative and innovative to bring fresh initiatives to the institution.
  • Excellent English Skills – professional reading, writing, and speaking abilities.
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to take on tasks as needed.
  • Above-average MS Excel, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint skills are a MUST.

Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes:

  • Not afraid to ask questions when in doubt.


  • Some technical understanding of auditorium equipment may be required for this position. Basic training will be provided.

High level of professionalism, reliability. Excellent level of English communication skills (verbal and business writing), ability to communicate well under pressure.

  • Flexibility in schedule – may be required to assist in hosting scheduled evening events or moderating evening sessions when needed.
